First you would call a phone number that you would think is local, but unfortunately its not. That phone is forwarded to another state. The individual will explain their issues that they're having and the employee will try to contact someone who is located in their city until they can find someone to assist them. The employee will then quote you a ridiculously low amount for the issues you have explained so that they can secure your locksmith job. But what you wont know is that you will be waiting anywhere from 30-60 minutes until someone finally shows up, examines the situation and then explains to you that there are issues with your locks so he will have to drill them. By this time, your patience is gone and frustration is setting in so you agree on what the "locksmith" has advised you what the best option is going to be. So your locks are drilled because they have every intention to do so from the very beginning and they then install the cheapest quality locks possible purchased from your local hardware store. The high quality lock that you thought was being installed was roughly about $20 at Home Depot, but managed to turn around and charge you anywhere from $75-$125 per lock. By the time they are finally finished, they hand you the total bill which has included a service call, labor for drilling your locks, plus the locks he replaced. So what should have a simple lockout costing you about $69, ends up being your worst nightmare with a charge of $300-$500. Television News programs such as 60 minutes and Bay News 9, have aired programs of fraudulent call centers stings to make the public aware of these scams that are going on in your local city.

We as Locksmith companies just ask for you to be considerate whenever you have called multiple companies to assist you. Return the call to stop them from time that could've been helping someone else. It is appreciated more than you would think. What if this happened to you?

So again when you are searching for a locksmith, you need to know their business name, the name of the person who will be coming to assist you, the vehicle they are driving, the total quote amount with no hidden fees, to ensure you get a qualified Locksmith to assist you properly. And you should always remember, the lowest quote is not always going to be your best option and be considerate of your Locksmith. Also, ask if their company has an "On Time" guarantee for lockouts? You should try to remember when a locksmith gets a call after midnight, you are then paying for that person to get out of bed, get dressed and drive to your location. That person must also wake up by 8am to start the next day of work which can certainly take a tole on someone who hasn't had a lot of sleep. Nevertheless, you should think about how much would your employer have to pay for you to wake up in the middle of the night to work for about an hour? Most people would not even answer the phone or would charge you a lot of money to help you, unlike me. In every profession large or small, you may find that there are individuals who try to find ways to bend the rules or scam the system. Whether someone is trying to get more discounts than what they should be receiving or a business trying to raise the prices to scam you out of money. Either way, a scam is a scam!

In the Locksmith profession, there are several scams that businesses try to wrap you up in. The standard procedure for hiring a Locksmith is actually simpler than you think. You find a locksmith and contact them. You then explain the technician your current situation and why you are needing assistance from them. Then they will base a charge depending upon the amount of work that is needed for your request. But before the job is done, he might inform you that the lock is broken and now you must pay for a new one.

Step 1: Do a little research regarding the company. Read reviews online and look over their website to verify that they are a real company.
Step 2: Ask for an estimate over the phone. If they quote you a price but say fees are subject to change, then that's a scam. Hang up.
Step 3: Ask what vehicle the Locksmith will be driving. If an unmarked vehicle pulls up and the technician looks suspicious, then end it right there.
Step 4: Before he even starts the job, verify the amount you were quoted before he touches anything.
Step 5: Do not give him money if you are not happy with the work he did. Especially if he drilled or broke your lock.
Step 6: Get a receipt and job description on the company's letter head paper. If he doesn't have that, then that's a sign of a fake Locksmith company.

BRADENTON, Fla. – The Federal Government undercover officers busted in on an illegal operation at the primary office of Reliable Locksmith and security in Bradenton, Florida. They are a statewide company of professional locksmiths who travel in local areas surrounding Bradenton. According to the police reports, on Thursday, the undercover officers confiscated files from their desktop computers as well as written documentation which links the company to several locksmith scams that have been recently reported. While there are a few employees that are being questioned, we are aware that the General Manager has been arrested and charged with conspiracy and knowingly receiving stolen property.

We have later come to find out that there were several burglaries reported within a few days before the local police took certain actions from the media. The sworn statement also points to the managers who were overseeing up to 95 company workers, several of them which were working undercover to help bring down the company that was scamming people. The undercover agents had the duties of normal employees as well as try to conduct secret interviews with other associates to get more information against the company. Although it seemed to be a lengthy process, the investigation was coming to a close.

The investigation took several years and even though there were only a few confirmed convictions so far, we knew that there are several more convictions that are going to be taking place in the upcoming days. In addition to postal fraud there were also charges relating to credit fraud, money laundering and stolen checks.

The investigation will never be over stated Officer Price, as he was finishing a media interview. There will always be someone who will come forward with information. It is our job to take that information and apply it to our case.

There is one question I get asked a lot in the field, and that is "What are bump keys?" And "How do they work?" The history behind bump keys is really quite simple. Originally they were created by Locksmiths to save time opening locks. This method has been around for many decades. But as of recently, within the past 15 years or so, they have become main stream. We have noticed that the call centers are "training" their technicians how to bump a lock because it is the easiest way to learn. However, because of this, the technicians don't stay in the field long so they use their improper training for the wrong reasons. This is now causing crooks to acquire bump keys. There is a "Bump Key Proofing Kit" available on the market. However, this product does not work all too well.

Being a second generation Locksmith, I have created a method that really does work and provide what they call "bump key proofing" locks. Our method here at A1 Agent Locksmith is proprietary, there for I can not go into too much detail regarding this matter. But rest assured, I have received many compliments about the security of our "bump key proofing" locks.
